This project consisted of the removal of the existing home bleachers and pressbox and construction of two new 1,600 SF storage facilities beneath a new 1,690 seat bleacher system with a new 10’x42’ press box located at the Hutchinson High School in Hutchinson, Minnesota. Furthermore, the project included site preparation for a new digital scoreboard and 326 seat visitor bleacher system.
Each CMU storage facility was designed to include three (x3) overhead doors and three (x3) man doors for access to three interior storage bays. The storage facilities were constructed with a roof and special detailing was necessary to allow the bleacher columns to penetrate the roof structure and bear on directly on the footings. Due to the proximity of the outer walls of the facility, the footings were oversized such that both the facility walls and bleacher columns could bear on the same footing. The facility also utilized overhead coiling doors to allow maximum storage space and a dry sprinkler system to meet code requirements. For this project, the bleacher systems and new scoreboard were purchased separately from the contract documents but site preparation and footings were included within this project scope.
Larson Engineering led the project from conceptual design to project completion and provided civil and structural services while hiring a third party architect to assist with architectural detailing. Larson Engineering developed construction cost estimates and worked with District representatives to design plans that met the needs of the District. LEI then helped qualify the most responsive responsible bidder for District approval and conducted follow-up construction observation as well as prepare close-out documents for the District.
