Hangar One is an iconic and recognizable structure located in Silicon Valley. It was originally built in the 1930’s to house the massive airship, USS Macon. The building covers around 8 acres and is 200 feet tall. It is known as one of the world’s largest freestanding structures. The building is engineered to withstand coastal winds while accommodating large airships. The frame of the structure is made of steel girders and its once light material that covered it has been removed as an effort to clean up the environment. Larson Engineering was part of the restoration to allow future use under the NASA Ames Research Center.
