College of Lake County Advanced Technology Center

Larson provided structural engineering services for the transformation of a 170,000-square-foot former Lowe’s retail store into a new home for the College of Lake County’s Industrial Technology and Welding and Fabrication Technology programs. The store’s conversion involved the addition of a partial second floor, new skylights, new rooftop mechanical equipment, and new openings in existing precast wall panels. The second-floor features precast concrete plank on steel beams. Larson’s design also included a roof-mounted jib crane and platform to lift the RTU filters and a screen wall to conceal the necessary dust collectors.
