Track and Turf Replacement — Breck School

The project consisted of reconstruction of the athletic track pavement and replacement of the synthetic turf at the stadium. The middle portion of both track straight-a-ways had settled from 8” to 12”, due to poor sub-soils. To correct the elevations and reduce future settlement risks, lightweight fill, geo-foam, was installed beneath the reconstructed asphalt and base aggregate. A met-council sewer line is located beneath the track and was inspected prior to construction and upon completion to confirm that no damage occurred. Additional electrical work was performed to install in-field electrical power and data lines for installation of a track timing system.

Blue Mondo track surfacing was installed with grey exchange zones. The synthetic turf system was UBU Sports S5, silt-film fibers, with SBR rubber infill.

The synthetic turf at the practice field was also replaced.

Larson Engineering, Inc. reviewed previous surveys of the athletic track and performed additional field measurements regarding the settlement of the athletic track straight-a-ways. Design of the geo-foam took into account the buoyancy of the materials and the necessary weight on pavement above. Larson Engineering managed the bidding and construction contract administration on behalf of the school. Construction observation was performed to verify work in accordance with the contract documents.
