Pine Island Public School District expanded their facilities with development of an acquired 40-acre parcel south of Pine Island for a new K-4 elementary school, athletic running track, varsity soccer field, and practice fields.

The development of the new site required coordination with the adjacent developer for the extension of city water and sewer to the site and with the county for the roadway improvements. The school construction progressed ahead of the utility extension so a well was installed for construction water needs and converter to run irrigation upon completion of the school. Stormwater management was achieved through an infiltration basin with a pre-treatment wet pond.

The school site included a dedicated bus lot and a separated student drop off lanes. Playgrounds for multiple age levels were located on-site as well as hard surface play areas including basketball hoops abd four square markings. A 9-lane athletic track with field events were constructed with a grass infield dedicated to soccer. Sports lighting was included along with a storage building with a pressbox mezzanine.

The site topography had an elevation change of 42’ from north to south. The school and parking were designed on an upper tier and the stadium and practice fields were on a lower tier with accessible pathways in between.
